Why you don't know who sends you customers (and the 10-minute fix)
Most restaurants, hotels and tour companies in Los Cabos pay for referrals they can't see. Here is how to give every referrer, ad and QR code its own link so the numbers stop being a guess.
Ask any restaurant owner in Cabo where last night's tables came from and you get the same answer: "Concierges, mostly. Some Instagram. The taxi guys." Ask how many from each, and the room goes quiet.
That is not a management problem. It is a plumbing problem. The people who send you customers all point at the same front door, so by the time a guest sits down, the trail is gone.
The three ways the trail gets lost
Word of mouth has no receipt. A concierge tells a guest "go to this place, say Ana sent you." Half of them forget to say it. The other half say it to a waiter who has no reason to write it down.
Every ad points at the same page. Your Instagram bio, your Meta ad and the QR on the menu all open your website. Google Analytics sees one blob of traffic and calls it "direct".
Commissions get settled from memory. At the end of the month you pay the concierges you think sent people. The ones who actually did notice, and quietly stop sending.
The fix is not a CRM
You do not need to change how the business runs. You need one thing: a different link for every source.
- Ana the concierge gets
go.yourbusiness.com/ana. - The menu QR gets
/menu. - The Meta ad gets
/meta-sept. - The influencer who posts on Friday gets
/lupita.
Each link opens the same branded page where the guest leaves a name and a WhatsApp number — ten seconds on a phone. The moment they hit send, the lead lands in your inbox tagged with who sent it, and the referrer sees it on their own private scoreboard.
That is the whole mechanism. No app for the guest, no app for the staff, nothing to install at the register.
What changes after a month
- You know the ratio. Not "concierges, mostly" — Ana 31, Marco 12, the menu QR 63, the ad 17.
- You pay the right people. Commissions are calculated from the leads, not from memory. The scoreboard shows each referrer what they are owed, so nobody has to ask.
- You cut what doesn't work. If the ad sent 17 people and the flyer sent 2, the flyer budget moves to the ad. That decision used to be a feeling.
Add a reason to leave their details
A link on its own gets scans, not names. A coupon — free fries, a welcome drink, 10% off the first tour — turns the scan into a lead. Origen issues a one-time code on the guest's phone, and the staff verify it at the counter by typing it or scanning the barcode on the screen. Used once, then it's dead.
Set-up in ten minutes
- Create a free workspace at origenlink.co.
- Name your first referrer. You get a link and a QR code.
- Print the QR, send the link on WhatsApp, put the ad link in the campaign.
The first lead usually arrives the same day. From then on the question "who sends you customers?" has a number next to every name.
Origen tracks where your customers come from — one link and QR per referrer, ad or post. Free to start. Create a free account →
